I have so much love for the high-street – it’s got a mix of trend led pieces with staples, it’s versatile, it’s current and most of all, you can get more for less. Yet with affordable fashion comes the worry that the outfit looks cheap – but girls let me tell you, just because the quality is lower doesn’t mean you can’t style the pieces to make your look more high-end!
Over the years I feel like I’ve really been able to experiment with this and found some tips that can work! This full outfit (minus my handbag) is from Primark, but does it look it?!
Tip 1: Mix a statement/more trendy piece with a basic.
I’m a fan of trends, but they can be somewhat tricky when picking them up on the high-street as there’s a thin line between chic and not-so..
The best advice to go with is to pick up that trend piece you’ve been eyeing (in my case, this pair of washed-out black high-waisted jeans with embellished detailing) and match it with a staple. I wore the jeans with a plain grey knit sweater (you can also pick this up in another color, such as a bright red)!
Tip 2: Accessorise the outfit!
I always say, accessories go a long way in making an outfit look complete. Whether you like classic jewelry or statement, both can work as long as you make sure not to over-accessorise (less is more)!
For this outfit I put on some simple silver jewelry, a classic watch with a blue wristband (getting that pop of color in) and a thin studded belt also from Primark to add some more detail. I’ve also worn a pair of black sunnies to add some mysteriousness and make the look more chic – I always think sunglasses are key in making an outfit look more high-end!
Tip 3: Mix and Match the look by adding some more high-end pieces!
Mixing high-street with high-end is extremely popular at the moment and it works! I love the thought of stylishly dressing a Primark dress with a Gucci belt, Topshop heels and Furla bag, for example. Even though the main focus might be on the dress, you’ve worn it in a way that shows taste and style without sporting a full on luxury outfit!
For my look the only high-end piece ended up being this Pinko bag that I thought matched perfectly as it’s got studded details on it similar to both the belt and jeans I picked out from Primark.
