Paris Haute Couture | Julien Fournié Show wearing Luca Michele

Last week I had the immense pleasure to attend Haute Couture Week in Paris for the very first time, where I was invited to the Julien Fournié SS16 show. Couture, to me, feels so magical… There is a powerful story to be told, where exquisite designs with the most beautiful fabrics glide down the runway and make you fall into their world even for a little while.. Haute Couture is all about beauty, poetry, dreams, and the luxury behind the ‘savoir-faire’ of couture houses whose designs can only be made by hand.

For the occasion, I wore Italian label Luca Michele – a sophisticated and modern brand I’ve previously worn during Milan Fashion Week. The dress I’ve picked out from the SS16 collection is so chic and sporty, a signature style of the brand whose inspiration takes from our technological society, whose contemporary designs show a unique vision of modernity within fashion. A mix of fabrics, draping and textures make the dress feel luxurious on the body, and the look it gives off is effortless and sophisticated in one. I fell in love with the sporty vibe of the color block and how seductive the silk skirt is..

As I had mentioned, each couture show has a unique story to tell – and Julien Fournié makes no exception for his SS16 collection. This season, the French designer took inspiration from the tropics. The waves coming up on the shore, the birds singing in the trees and the flowers blooming, Fournié shows his know-how of couture with his exquisite line-up of tropical designs entitled ‘PREMIER PARADIS’ (First Paradise).

 A sublime level of craftsmanship is executed, one that can only be created in couture where each element on each unique dress is handmade. Using organza fabrics together with draping, sheer textures and three-dimensional embroidery, Julien Fournié created a story that had transformed the room at the Oratoire du Louvre into a powerful and mysterious tropical shore on an island. The beauty of nature is depicted in the clothing with watercolor fabrics, and with a vivid color palette of bright pinks, deep purples, bold oranges and intense greens, the collection brings out the elegance and power of an expressive woman.

What I loved about the show was how each garment flowed so beautifully in movement, and how from one to the other, the story evolved into a strong collection that shows the relationship between luxury ready-to-wear (the first part of the show), to spectacular Haute Couture gowns.
