Wow, I can’t believe that it’s already been just over two weeks since I was in Berlin for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week! Time really does fly and this summer I’ve been kept way too busy with work and internships.. Too much to do and so little time, do any of you feel the same way? I promise you guys, I have a lot of very exciting posts coming up and I hope you will enjoy this one from my first day at MBFW Berlin!
This season I had the amazing opportunity to attend Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Berlin once again (see my previous post from MBFWB AW15!) as a member of the Press. It is simply such an honor, and such a unique experience I am so grateful for, to be able to travel and to share with you all the upcoming fashion and trends seen at the shows! My trip to Berlin, as the last one, had been wonderful and so full of enthusiasm – it’s a beautiful city I am longing to spend more time in and to explore!
As you know, choosing your outfits for Fashion Week is something quite special and exciting as not only is it a reflection of your style and who you are, but it’s also a time when you can explore and try out bolder looks! For the first day I wanted to keep it very feminine, flirty and well put-together. In collaboration with two amazing brands, Fabitoria (whom I’ve worn a few times on the blog already: view here and here), and Lydia Rose Bright’s collection, the look I wore couldn’t have been more me! I am noticing now just how much I love long skirts, and wearing this one by Lydia Bright really made me feel like an elegant ballerina!
On the first day, I kicked off the Fashion Week season with a young, fresh and clean-cut show by VEKTOR Berlin, titled ‘Ultra Light’. The playful use of textures created a vibrant atmosphere that illustrated the strength of shapes even without a lot of color. What I loved was the fact that the collection consisted of whites, nudes and denim – the palette was soft but effervescent, dreamy yet strong, and the perfect representation of youth.
For Spring/Summer 16, the designers took inspiration from the skate culture of the 90s and the famous ballet dancer Sergei Polunin in the creation of their collection. The exploration of a variety of ‘lightweight’ materials, such as crepe and mesh, wqs to illustrate softness and ease of movement that ballet dancers have, yet the rough and boxy shapes of the garments imitate the look of the 90s ‘skater fashion’. Overall it was an impressive collection that had me in awe – both the Menswear and Womenswear lines blended into one another perfectly, and their versatility makes it perfect for everyday-wear.
The next show that I had the chance to see live for the first time was ‘Desert’ by Marcel Ostertag. Located in the Admiralspalast theater, the show took place in quite an unordinary venue for Fashion Weuk. The theater was absolutely stunning, from the grand seating to the high ceilings, massive chandelier and a traditional staircase, it was surely a show that had built up a lot of excitement from the crowd!
Once the show began a screen was pulled down showing us a beautiful film of the making of the ‘Desert’ collection, which filled everyone with a sense of emotion. I was amazed with the impeccably structured theme that was brought out in every piece of the collection. Four prints were seen throughout, beginning with a sunrise, then sunset, salt desert and later forming golden and shimmering sand. Flowing silk garments were combined with more modern and structural pieces, such as oversized bomber jackets and shorts. It was a true ‘desert nomad meets sophisticated metropolitan’ atmosphere, but oh was it executed so divinely!
The color palette ranged from pale pink and nudes to bright pink, metallic bronze and dark navy, and in the finale with orange, yellow and brown hues to represent sand. ‘Desert’ signifies Earth, back to the origin and the formation of a new beginning. As the designer himself said “Desert by day. Desert by night. Two different worlds.”, and it was indeed two different worlds intertwined.
I hope you enjoyed reading this post from MBFWB, and stay tuned for the next ones coming soon! In the meantime I would absolutely love to know what your thoughts are of the shows and which is your favorite look so far?
