Fashion Weeks are not only the most exciting and adrenaline-pumping time of the year for their fashion shows – and no, not for the many ‘celebrity’ appearances either, but rather they are the most exciting for their street style.
We all know it; every Fashion Week across the world the very best fashion is concocted on the streets by all sorts of individuals. And the question is posed every time: who dressed best? Whose outfit stood out, and who made it on Vogue’s list of Best Street Style during Fashion Week? Although it isn’t a competition, it definitely got me thinking beforehand about how I could come up with an interesting, fashion-forward and season-appropriate look. If you read my previous post on the shows I attending this MBFWB, you should know that it was my first time at any Fashion Week. Can you imagine the feeling? Well anyway, I decided to go with my guts and dress in a look that was very me. Not over the top and not minimalistic, but just the right amount of ‘less is more’.
The most eye-catching piece of this look is the jacket – and it’s meant to be. This jacket has a very unique story behind it, and it’s quite a special one to me. From time to time I love looking through my grandma’s closet and trying on beautiful dresses, fancy skirts and interesting jackets. When my grandma asked me to try this jacket on, it caught my eye immediately!
Maybe you have guessed it: it’s a vintage Angelo Tarlazzi jacket – part of a two-piece look including a matching plaid midi skirt. Angelo Tarlazzi, Italian designer with Parisian influence, was most known for his stunning evening gowns and drapery, but his designs were also very feminine, flirty and ample – particularly popular at the time. The fashion in the 70s and 80s was to wear large shoulder pads to accentuate the upper body and give off an air of sophistication and femininity. This plaid jacket is exactly that.
The rest of the look all came together around the vintage jacket – and just like that I had an outfit perfect for MBFW in Berlin, and I couldn’t have felt any better then in this look. So tell me, what do you think?
