One of the shows I had the opportunity to attend during London Fashion Week was Xiao Li, and I have to be honest here, to say that I was blown away by the show is simply an understatement! The Autumn Winter 2015 collection is centered on the theme of keeping healthy and avoiding fashion. Sounds interesting? Just wait and see…
“Can science make a better perfume?” That is certainly a question to ask ourselves when putting in mind the effects of fashion in the modern world. Inspired by the contradictions of fast fashion, Xiao Li presented a fresh and innovative collection whilst using never-seen-before techniques. It wasn’t enough to create beautifully crafted garments; Xiao Li aimed to showcase the controversial issue of mass consumerism in our modern society. Therefore I have to ask, is fashion healthy?
Through the combination of luxury knitwear, three-dimensional graphics and silicone accessories, the Autumn Winter collection certainly made a statement! What I loved most was the beauty of such loose fitting yet perfectly structured pieces. The fact that the designs were inspired by the 60s street style was also a pleasant surprise as the bright colors on the garments are reminiscent of pop art at that time.
Overall the Xiao Li fashion show was much more than a fashion show, it was a wake-up call reminding us all of the powerful (and not always positive) effects this industry, and especially mass consumerism, has. The garments were certainly ones to keep in mind as Xiao Li has brought the bar high for the coming winter! What do you think of this collection?
I’m not sure I would wear any of these, but it’s definitely a very creative collection!

No problem, I love sharing my discoveries with you all!
Very though provoking questions and collection. I think fashion in this sense is healthy (bringing out a collection for two seasons each year). Fast fashion where it’s a new style every month is not healthy. It’s also unsustainable and expensive which is ironic because it’s the chain stores that rip off the designer clothing that do fast fashion.

That’s a very insightful opinion – you are definitely right after high fashion being healthy and fast fashion is both unsustainable and expensive! x
