HOW TO PULL OFF A SUEDE CAMEL TRENCH

Camel trench coats, especially here in Britain after Burberry’s famous trench coat made its mark, are seen everywhere and are being worn by countless of different people with different styles! But sporting a suede camel trench is slightly trickier. Not only do you have to pick out the right suede trench, so it looks classy and not cheap (as no one wants that!), you also have to know what to wear it with! So here are my top tips on styling one of the trendiest pieces of the moment, I hope you enjoy!

1. Go Minimalistic

When wearing a suede trench, such as mine from Lipsy London, you certainly do have to pay attention to the outfit you have on underneath. The trench coat is the item that is going to catch people’s eyes, but you want to be sure that when you take it off, your whole look is a WOW as well!

Now, as the suede trench is the hero of the outfit, it’s important to not overdo it. What I would recommend is staying minimalistic in the pieces you wear, and playing with different textures and prints rather than colors! Why so? Wearing bold colors underneath a camel trench is a risky move and draws attention to the mismatch of colors rather than the actually look you have on. Combining different textures on the other hand is a YES – as the trench already has a texture of its own, you can easily wear lace, pleats or prints such as tartan and stripes.

For my look I went for all black, something I rarely do, but it was the best way to attract attention to the different textures I was wearing (such as the lace neckline detail on my Lipsy London x Michelle Keegan peplum top, and the suede on the trench). You don’t have to keep to only black, but try to stay around the darker palettes to bring out a nice contrast!

2. Elongate yourself

As a trench coat is already long in itself, coming up to the knees usually, you want to be sure you wear pieces that compliment your shape and height rather than shorten it.

To do this, I would recommend wearing culotte trousers or wideleg pants that come up just before your ankle, such as the ones I’m wearing from Lipsy London, which make my legs appear so much longer! I would also suggest going for heels with this look, but you could easily wear mid-heel like I am with my chic leather boots from Ash Footwear!

3. Accessorise thoughtfully

Once you’ve put together your outfit, accessories become key in making the final statement! As we went for a mimimal look with focus on the camel trench in this post, simple yet bold jewelry is what will look best. Remember, you want this outfit to turn heads – in a good way!

The accessories I picked out are gold jewelry, such as this delicate geo-metric triangle necklace from Perka Design, and my beautiful new Kate Spade watch from Beaverbrooks the Jewellers. It is such a statement accessory in its own, but wearing solid gold jewelry combined helps to make the look all the more luxurious!

You can also accessorize with a pair of sunglasses, such as these very feminine cat-eye shaped one I’ve picked out from Bailey Nelson! There are also slight shades of purple, red and orange hues in the frame which makes them the perfect piece to compliment a minimalistic look!
