BE YOURSELF with ASOS

Good-morning from my current location, Phuket Thailand! I’m writing from my hotel room overlooking a beautiful view of the lagoon and beach, but work never stops even during the holidays!

Today I have a very exciting post to share with you guys, its concept is quite nice and I’ve never actually shared this story with you before. In collaboration with ASOS for their Be Yourself campaign, I’ve been asked to put together my ultimate go-to work wear look, as well as answer some interview questions from the team all about my job and life as a blogger and journalist.

This article is all about fashion, (of course!), and introducing work wear in relation to your job role and industry you are in. Everyone has different styles and tastes, so I am pleased to share with you my ‘typical’ work outfit wearing all ASOS, as well as the interview questions they’ve asked me around the Be Yourself campaign. So let’s get started!

What is your industry and job role?

The industry that I’m in is Fashion. I’m a fashion and lifestyle blogger for my blog BIBI GOES CHIC, as well as the Founder & Editor for my digital fashion magazine created as an extension to the blog for more of an insight into the industry.

What part of your job gets you excited to get out of bed in the morning?

Oh quite a lot! Firstly, almost everything about my job is thoroughly enjoyable: from shooting creative and fashion-forward looks, to day-to-day meetings with some of my favorite brands, and from press events to sitting down on my laptop writing articles to publish, I can honestly say there isn’t a job in the world that would suit me more!

As a blogger and fashion journalist every day can seem different with no fixed schedule – and for me, it includes working 24/7! My most favorite part of it all would have to be shooting the content, as it allows me to create a unique story every time, keeping in mind both my style as a blogger and that of the brands’.

On the other side, being a journalist is equally as rewarding, because you can create beauty with words. Since I was young my favorite subjects in school have been English and History – I simply loved to write creative stories as well as construct arguments. Writing about fashion, up and coming brands and events is a part of my job I really enjoy, although I do love the personal side to blogging as well.

What is the general dress code in your industry like?

The Fashion industry would probably be just the most creative when it comes to dress codes, as there kind of isn’t one! From designers to journalists, to bloggers and models and so many more, there isn’t much of a dress code at work (depending on the company), and everyone reflects their own personality and style with what they wear daily.

What would you consider to be your absolute work wear staple?

In my opinion, you could never go wrong with a stylish blouse. No matter what your job is within the Fashion industry, a blouse is a staple piece and can be worn so many ways! There are styles to suit every individual as well as every occasion, whether it be for a meeting with a client, an after-party during Fashion Week or a photoshoot to appear in the media, it’s always a must-have choice. I myself can’t get enough of them, and my favorite version is a pussy-bow blouse with ruffles, like this chic one from ASOS!

What is your favorite work footwear and why?

That’s easy, and that would have to be for me the famous OTK (over the knee) boots. I absolutely love the chic and effortless style they give off, and they honestly look amazing worn with skinny jeans or high-waisted skirts! As work wear, they are such a versatile pair and you don’t even need to wear one with heels to appear sophisticated and professional for the office.

Do you have a cheat hair style to save you time in the mornings?

Yes, I do! I usually like to keep my hair quite simple for a typical work day either in my home office or heading to meetings, which is a natural blow dry. As my hair is generally quite straight anyway I often just have to brush and blowdry it and I’ll be good to go for the day!

Do you have any advice for people who want to work in your industry?

The Fashion industry is big and it is competitive, but it doesn’t mean breaking into it is impossible! When I started my blog about two years ago, I had no connections in fashion nor even knew how to begin, but through hard-work, dedication and passion I had managed to make it.. So my biggest advice would be to not be afraid to meet new people, because connections in Fashion are so important, and to show your true self and individuality.

What made you choose this particular ASOS outfit combination?

My style is one that is ultimately quite feminine, Parisian chic and with a touch of edge. When it comes to work wear, I tend to play it safe yet fashionable, where the look comes together all in the details! As I mentioned, I am a big lover of blouses as they are often professional but without overdoing it and becoming too ‘corporate’. A blouse, especially a tuned-up one with a bow and ruffles is definitely my go-to item!

Another piece I have just been obsessed with this Autumn/Winter is a high-waisted knit skirt. It looks oh-so-chic with a blouse, and paired with over-the-knee boots looks glamorous and ready to rock the office in style! As the weather in London isn’t its best at the moment, any outfit is definitely in need of a coat and so I’ve chosen a tailored woolen blazer to complete the look!

Jewelry is also key in creating the perfect, all-around look as the outfit can never be complete without a bracelet, ring or necklace to make the final statement! As this is a work wear look, I decided to keep the jewelry minimal, opting only for my very favorite every-day pieces. The first is a beautiful 18-carats gold personalized bracelet written ‘BIBI’ as part of French fine-jewelry brand Nouvel Heritage’s NH1990 Signature collection. A piece that is so versatile and luxurious, it can be worn on its own or complimented with other delicate bracelets!

I am also wearing a matching ring and bracelet from London based pearl jewelry brand ORA Pearls. These two 14-carats gold pieces, each with a freshwater pearl are beautiful to wear with a sophisticated and chic look, and the style is a modern take on traditional pearl jewelry. The perfect pieces to elevate a work wear look without overdoing it!

I hope you enjoyed reading this interview and most of all that you liked my fully-styled ASOS outfit! What is your ultimate work wear combination?

  1. That blouse is absolutely stunning! Those dainty details are perfect with the outfit. I hope you enjoy your time in Thailand! I’d love to go back soon- the beaches are remarkable. Be sure to visit the markets if you can. So many fun colors and home decor elements.
